Condenser Based BRDF measurement

We develop a hand-held, high-speed BRDF capturing device for phase one measurements. A condenser-based optical setup collects a dense Hemisphere of rays emanating from a single point on the target sample as it is manually scanned over it, yielding 10 BRDF point measurements per second. The device utilizes a symetric pair of aspheric condesor lenses and a pinhole to create a light-field image of a single point covering a solid angle of approxmatly 90 deg. Using multiple leds we are able to create a BRDF of the samples point using a micro-facet model. This device was later (independently) improved.
